Yoga Safety

Here are a few suggestions to help you enjoy your class and practice safely:

  • Arrive 10 minutes before a class.

  • Turn your phone to silent or off.

  • Limit jewellery.

  • Practice in bare feet.

  • Avoid wearing strong perfume.

  • Use a sticky yoga mat to aid grip.

  • Mention any recent health concerns to the teacher such as not feeling well or not at your best on that particular day.

  • See your doctor to discuss any health issues you are unsure of.

  • Notify the teacher if you are pregnant, immediately.

  • Avoid practicing on a full stomach. Allow 2 hours for the body to digest a meal and 1 hour for a snack.

  • Never practice under the influence of alcohol.

  • Wear comfortable, loose, stretchy clothing and layer up. You can remove layers as you warm up and replace them later.

  • Bring a blanket and warm socks for relaxation at the end of the class.

  • Always listen to the teachers instructions as closely as possible, sticking to alignment points.

  • Keep your awareness on what you are doing at all times

  • Remember that practicing yoga is not a competition. Do not compare yourself to others.

  • Listen to your body and go at your own pace. Stay within your limits and prevent injury by knowing what you can and can’t do.

  • Ask the teacher if you haven’t understood or need some help with a posture or alignment point.

  • Never force or strain your body into a position it is not comfortable. Everyone has their own unique body shape and this affects how they go in to a posture and what the body looks like.

  • Always practice postures slowly, carefully and with awareness.
